Borning in a family of antique dealers, Patrick Berko had always been passionate about European academic, realist and orientalist paintings, the romantic school of the 19th century and the Belle Epoque. He and his wife Viviane, also an art specialist, had opened galleries in Knokke-Le Zoute (1976), Paris (1978), Brussels (1983), Antwerp (1984), New York (1987) and Tokyo (1989). More recently, in 2008, they handed over the direction of their new gallery in Shanghai to their children Maximin and Irina, who shared their passion. Their galleries attract both seasoned collectors and enthusiastic art amateurs. They participate regularly in prestigious international fairs in Brussels, Paris, Maastricht, Palm Beach, Monaco, Moscow, London, Shanghai, etc. Patrick and Viviane Berko have published several reference books including the ‘Dictionary of Belgian Painters born between 1750 and 1875’ and other works devoted to flower and animal painters. They havd also written numerous monographs. They recently published their latest work of reference book: ཏth Century European Virtuoso Painters'.
